What Is Ghost Train Haze?

To answer this question and more, we turned to the experts at Station House (grown by Sensi Brands Inc.) and Color Cannabis (grown by Entourage Health Corp.).

Ghost Train Haze is a heavy-hitting sativa that’s known in part for its dense buds enveloped by truly frosty trichomes.

History

Ghost Train Haze was first bred by Rare Dankness, a Colorado-based cannabis genetics developer. It’s a cross between Nevil’s Wreck, a rare sativa-dominant hybrid also bred by Rare Dankness, and Ghost OG, an indica-dominant hybrid that descends from OG Kush.

Characteristics

This strain stands out for many reasons but perhaps most notable are its thick, crystal-covered buds and its trademark layered scent.

“The buds are bright green and glistening with trichomes,” says Curtis Wallace, head of cultivation at Entourage Health Corp. The bright green hue is often complemented by equally vibrant orange hairs (“stigmas”), which makes the crystal-capped trichomes really pop.

Then there’s the aroma, which is earthy and citrusy, with a “noticeable Haze spiciness,” says Steve Barich, chief operating officer at Sensi Brands. “The unmistakable sweet and piney aroma of Ghost Train Haze is unique. The bud has a beautiful strong, hazy odour that quickly permeates around the room.”

Those same notes come through in the flavour as well. “It’s a little zesty on the front, followed by earthy, spicy flavors,” Barich says.

Growing

Ghost Train Haze typically reaches between four and six feet in height and two or three feet across, though it may stretch taller and wider if grown outdoors.

Color Cannabis Ghost Train Haze is grown in rockwool, in a 10,000-square-foot greenhouse grow room equipped with a hydroponic feeding system.

Growing Ghost Train Haze

Did you know?

Rockwool is a light, porous material made largely from volcanic rock. It’s inert and sterile — meaning it’s not susceptible to mould and doesn’t contain heavy metals that could transfer to and harm a plant — making it a popular growing medium for Licensed Producers.

“It is an easy strain to grow but can also easily grow out of control if not tamed in the vegetative stage. The branches grow spindly and produce large, round flowers from top to bottom,” Wallace explains. “This strain requires sufficient support with trellis or bamboo stakes and has a fairly high calyx-to-leaf ratio.” When used as a mother — a healthy cannabis plant that a grower takes a clipping from — one plant can be used to produce several clones, Wallace adds.

For its Station House Ghost Train Haze, Sensi Brands uses the “sea of green” method (a growing technique that involves growing many smaller plants in a tighter square footage) in its indoor cultivation environment.

“The strain prefers a hot and dry outdoor environment which makes indoor the preferred cultivation method of choice, with highly controlled ventilation, humidity monitoring and temperature control,” Barich explains. Ghost Train Haze does require a little extra care than some other strains; the high density of its buds means careful attention must be paid during the trimming process.

What Is a Strain?

To understand what a cannabis strain is, think of it like a breed of dog. While all dogs share similar traits, there are distinct differences among breeds (you wouldn’t confuse a Great Dane with a dachshund, for example). When it comes to different cannabis strains, this means one may have a sweet, lemony aroma, while another may boast a pungent, sour, diesel-like scent.

These differences have been fine-tuned by cannabis growers over many generations. Growers will choose two plants with desirable traits and then cross (or breed) those plants together, creating an offspring with a stronger expression of those desirable characteristics. When breeding cannabis plants, growers are often focused on the unique aroma and taste, and the potential THC and CBD content. Just like no two Great Danes are identical, strains can vary from lot to lot and grower to grower.

Will I like  Ghost Train Haze?

If you like potent sativas, frosty buds and earthy, zesty aromas, you might like Ghost Train Haze. This strain can have high THC content, so remember to start low and go slow.
